OK so the plan late last night was to pack all my bits and pieces away and tidy my flat ready for Christmas. Well I did pack up and did tidy (sort of) then sat down with the husband and our rat Charles to watch ‘Love Actually’ – a Christmas ritual of ours. Which was as always lovely, but (and this is nothing to do with the company - both husband and rat were great) I was bored within about 15 minutes!
So while still watching Love Actually I decided to revamp a giant alarm clock that I’ve had for years. I’ve never really liked it; it had a 60’s psychedelic black and white face that always made me feel a bit queasy whenever I stared at it too long but I loved the retro shape, and the god awful noise it makes when the alarm goes off. So I promptly rushed into completely dismantling it, only to realise half way through just how many bits there are in your average alarm clock, which left me scrambling trying to remember what went where!
Then I got some of this ‘paper doll’ fabric that I love, covered the face in that and reassembled my clock. I turned it over to admire my handy work, whilst being immensely proud that the thing was still ticking, only to find myself wondering what was missing. Not sure if it was the general lazy Sunday atmosphere or the fact I was up so late loading the last blog, but it took me several minutes to realise that the thing missing from my clock was the time.
Sooooo this time round being a pro at clock building I remembered what went where and lined all my components up neatly during dismantle attempt no. 2.
She’s now spent the day happily tick ticking away (though we had a moment of panic when one of the hands caught on a button – a good whack on the back fixed this though and she started up again fine), and the alarm even went off at one point which is not a pleasant sound to be surprised with on a Sunday afternoon!
So a slightly revised Christmas resolution from yesterday... put craft related bits and pieces away and tidy flat (properly this time) but have a few projects at the ready in case my restless hands get bored watching T.V in the evenings!
