I once read somewhere that people who make crafts work 5 till 9, though I like many would love to turn that around to a regular full time 9 till 5!
But as it is at the moment I have been working the day job and then rushing home in the evenings (as well as the occasional sneaky session on my lunch break) to finish off this website and get selling online.
Those of you who have been popping onto reconsideredRetro.com every now and again might have noticed its erratic and at times downright appalling state. This has been partly down to me working on it like I said ‘5 – 9’ but mainly down to the fact that I am, what it typically known as a ‘technical dunce’, as my computer whizz of an uncle will testify to. He once asked me if I use my laptop to swat flies – which I think sums it up really.
Anyway back to the topic... the website has been a work in progress for some time, chopping and changing in both layout and design. I use weebly.com to host my website which is fantastic because even and computer challenged person like me can use it. However, I had serious trouble finding a layout that I liked from the range that they had. Most were very minimalist which is one thing that I most certainly am not. My front room has on more than one occasion been described as being like a curio shop, which I choose to take a compliment though most would probably disagree! So after several months of going from one set layout to another and never really loving any I decided to try and alter it myself. So I found my way to the html page and went from there...
SERIOUS amounts of trial and error later, figuring out what colour codes went with what colour and that having ; and not : after certain words was actually a massive deal and I’m finally happy with my little website. A proper website designer would no doubt scoff at my little victories, but the day I discovered how to put my airmail borders round areas was amazing and for someone who hadn’t done anything computer-ey before I was pretty proud!
So that’s it; reconsidered Retro is officially up and running – blogging away and selling online. I sent off four orders the day after products went on sale including, you’ll be pleased to know, some of the fabric covered soaps. It isn’t very ladylike to say ‘I told you so’ but that didn’t stop me from mentioning that particular sale to the husband. He might not get them but I’m glad some people do!
Anyway I like the website but I’d love to know what you think too – so any feedback, suggestions or advice would be much appreciated guys!
Once again thanks for reading.
